Environmental concerns are having a tremendous impact on how electronic component and semiconductor suppliers manufacture their products today. Tundra is committed to responsible design and is working with its customers and suppliers to deliver environmentally-sensitive products.

Tundra has qualified the majority of its devices to meet the requirements of legislation enacted by the European Union Directive 2002/95/EC of January 27, 2003 on the Restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS). As of July 1, 2006, the RoHS Directive prohibits the sale of electronic components and systems containing more than the designated maximum allowable levels of six hazardous substances: lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.

RoHS Definitions

The following 3 categories describe how Tundra meets RoHS requirements.

RoHS Compliant (6of6) – These products, identified by the letter ‘Y’ at the end of their part number, contain no restricted substances above the limits set in the EU Directive 2002/95/EC

RoHS Compliant (Flip Chip) – These products, identified by the letter ‘Y’ at the end of their part number, contain only one of the six restricted substances – Lead (Pb). These Flip Chip products are RoHS compliant through the Lead (Pb) exemption for Flip Chip technology, Commission Decision 2005/747/EC, which allows “lead in solders to complete a viable electrical connection between semiconductor die and carrier within integrated circuit Flip Chip packages.

RoHS Compliant/Green – these products, identified by the letter ‘V’ at the end of their part number, follow the above definitions for RoHS Compliance and meet JIG (Joint Industry Guide) Level B requirements for Brominated Flame Retardants (other than PBBs & PBDEs).

RoHS 5of6 Products

RoHS 5of6 is an industry standard referring to products that contain only one of the six substances restricted by the EU Directive 2002/95/EC. Tundra's non-RoHS compliant parts are RoHS 5of6 containing the restricted substance Lead (Pb).

MSL and Reflow Profiles

Moisture sensitivity levels and reflow profiles for lead (Pb) and RoHS Compliant parts are compliant with the requirements of IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020C dated July 2004.
